Yesterday we talked about using a fun location for inspiring your kids (and yourself) for more natural, unposed shots of camera shy kids. Today I want to talk about another one of my secret methods for getting my kids in pictures.
Canon 5d Mark II
Like sprinkling corn out for deer or throwing a worm on a hook for a fish, you have to know what your kids will come out of hiding for. Don’t be ashamed to bait the hook.
This has worked for all my kids at almost every age from troubled 2 year olds to terrible teens. And the trick is this: find what they enjoy doing most of all.
People and children are more relaxed in front of the camera when they are doing something they love to do. My kids beg me to take pictures of them when they are:
playing in water
playing with pets
jumping on the trampoline. (Just to name a few things.)
These are just a few examples of things they feel confident and happy doing. Confident and happy kids equal more photos for me!
Homework: Find out what your kids love to do, photograph them doing it.
