I didn’t mind at all bossing these people around a little on their Thanksgiving Day get-together. I’ve known this family all of my life and half of them are my cousins. It’s been great to see the family grow with all the new additions lately. And I love that they chose to have their portraits done in a place that is so meaningful for them, their grandparent’s home place in Pansy, Arkansas. There’s something pretty special about a photograph of your family standing on the land that has been in your family for generations, the family home in the background, trees you used to play under, reminders of the past.
I recommend anyone who is planning a family portrait session to consider a setting that is special to you: the old homeplace, where you are raising your children, even your favorite hunting grounds. The setting of your pictures becomes as meaningful as the people as years go by.
