Forks, Knives, and Spoons ~ on predicting the weather

October 24, 2011

persimmon tree

Do you have a persimmon tree in your yard? If you do, you may want to try this experiment.

On Sunday, when my family gathered for our weekly lunch after church, my cousin’s husband cut open some persimmon seeds to see what was inside. He knew it would be either a fork, a knife or a spoon. I had heard this folklore before, but never investigated inside a seed to see for myself.

10-24 hand full of seeds

10-24 seeds

10-24 spoons

The result: all spoons! Some of you may be happy to know this means we’ll have lots of heavy, wet snow here in Arkansas.

What does your persimmon tree tell you about the winter ahead?

I don’t think we can grow persimmon trees here!

I’ve never heard about the fork, knife, spoon before. I think I’ll run over to my FIL’s place and try it out.
